Wet wash:
a tub of water indicates wet wash
Chlorine bleaching:
a triangle indicates chlorine bleaching
Ironing:
the outline of an iron indicates ironing
Dry cleaning:
a circle indicates dry cleaning
Tumble drying:
a circle inside a square indicates tumble drying after washing
Complementary symbols
Treatment not suitable:
a St Andrew's Cross ("X") over any one of the aforementioned symbols indicates that the treatment represented by that symbol is unsuitable.
Moderated treatment:
a solid line beneath the tub or the circle of the first five symbols indicates that the treatment must be performed in a more moderate manner than the treatment indicated by the symbols without the solid line.
Greatly moderated treatment:
in addition to the first five symbols, a dotted line beneath the tub indicates that the wash must be performed at just 40°C
